On Boxing Day 1920 Liverpool police feared a riot was about to break out when 10,000 fans were locked out of Goodison Park because the ground was full to capacity.
The game was being played between two teams of women footballers.
In 1917 a group of women working in a munitions factory in Preston had decided to raise money for wounded soldiers by playing football.
In four years they became national heroines and raised so much money for charity that they were banned by the FA.
